Pousada do Queijo`s owner was born in Governador Valadares. When visiting Serro for the first time, she fell in love with the city. Her main passion is the Jaboticaba trees (bearing small purple berry - type fruits), which is located in the garden of the Pousada do Queijo.

Shirley felt motivated to open the Pousada do Queijo, take care of the Jabuticaba trees and show visitors her family tradition of cheese production. Shirley has shown her guests not only a good reception, but also the best tours. Shirley loves good cheese and can spend many hours in the garden to enjoy the beautiful view of Pousada do Queijo.

Pousada do Queijo is concerned with the preservation of architectural heritage. The facade and the internal spaces of the inn are conserved. Job opportunities are generated for locals, including people who hadn't previously worked in the inn business.

The Pousada do Queijo offers all the training to staff in order to welcome tourists. The breakfast goods are bought from local producers. So it helps with not only increasing the income of the local community, but also encouraging small producers.
